Silo 2.2 Beta download for PC/Mac

UPDATE 4/1/10: New versions of these betas, with additional fixes have been created, but without installers (as were still working out some kinks there.) For now to install the Beta you will need to download and install using the instruction in this post, then review the next post for links to download the new .exe (Windows) or .app (Mac) and instructions. The previous Beta is now expired and will not work without this extra step.

--------------------------------------

Hi Everyone, here's the promised public beta of Silo 2.2. The main changes since our last release are:

1. The return of the snapping manipulator.
2. An export scene option.
3. Fixed to work on Snow Leopard (but will now only run on Intel Macs running 10.4 and newer)
4. Many stability fixes.

The Mac download is simply the program folder - drag it into your Applications folder and run it from there. The Windows version is an installer. We're contemplating relocating the user preferences on both platforms - right now they're located in the program folder itself, but Windows now has that folder set to be read-only by default (though we've made the installer make the Silo program folders writable, but aren't sure if that works on all systems yet). Let us know what you think makes the most sense - on Mac the preferences folders could be located in "Library/Application Support" and on Windows in "Users/Public/Documents" perhaps (since the actual application data folder on Windows is hidden by default, and we want people to be able to swap these files around).

As always, these are betas, meaning you can expect bug, and we hope you'll report them to us. Enjoy!

You can discuss this download here (in the Community Discussion area): http://silo3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16781 and report bugs in the bugs section.

Updated Beta Files

To get the newest bug fixes and to continue using the Silo 2.2 Beta beyond 3/31/2010, you will need to download the lastest Beta program files below. A mentioned in the previous post, we are still working on the installers, so in order to install these you will need to do the following:

1. Download the .exe (Windows) or .app (Mac) below
Windows Exe: http://www.silo3d.com/jbhu1/Silo_22_...-04-01_win.zip
Mac .App: http://www.silo3d.com/jbhu1/Silo_22_...01_mac.app.zip

2. Locate your installation of the Silo 2.2 beta from the post above (note, you must install the Beta from the post above before attempting to use the new program files.)
For windows users this will most likely be:
C:/Program Files/Silo 2.2
For Mac users this will most likely be in the Applications folder:
Hard Drive Name > Applications > Silo 2.2

3. Replace the existing program file with the new one you've just downloaded.

Any questions or difficulties please post in the beta discussion thread: http://www.silo3d.com/forum/showthre...=16781&page=10

Latest Fixes

Here are some fixes in the latest Beta:

1. New Safer Save - A few people have noted at times a bug where Saving via Crtl+S or other means caused a crash. We have never been able to consistently recreate this, but we have re-tailored the saving process to make it safer. Silo now saves to a temp file and then renames the temp file after successfully saving it, so no file should get corrupted on save.

2. Bug fixed so slide works after Split Loop in Multi-select mode.

3. Bug fixed where geometry that had been locked in scene editor came unlocked after a save and reopen.

4. Fixed a bug where by default the file name of a previously saved Silo file would appear in the file name box when saving.

5. Fixed a bug where switching form Ghosted Shade Mode to Flat Shade Mode left Hidden Edges selectable.

6. Fixed a bug where tweaking wouldn't work after certain actions.
