City Project
I intend to model several square miles worth of buildings, complete with minor details.
Here are the first buildings, I call them Cathedral Towers, since they kinda remind me of some old churches. It has 20846 faces and took 4 and a half hours to model. The grid is divided up roughly by the mile (in relation to the building). It's really a separate file that I use as a reference. Importing it kinda messes up the near clipping plane so I leave it out when working.

That's an ambitious project, Hauzer. Have you conceptualized the whole grid already? Do you have a plan or are you just going to start filling it up?

I don't intend to fill the entire grid with sky scrapers, maybe just the first 4 square miles. After that it'll just be interstates, forest, and neighborhoods.
As for a city plan, I'm not sure if I want to bother making one. Sure more time will be spent figuring out where to put things, but I'm OK with that.

Wow... an ambitious project!
I don't have the patience for it. I would probably just use something like this: http://www.blendernation.com/suicida...-0-4-released/ My hats off to you for taking on such heavy detail!

Thanks Matthias!

Here's a render of the skyscraper, as well as screen shots of a new, much smaller building.

I fixed the steps AdiJager.
Thanks TheBat for the compliment. Here's some renders. I know the textures aren't the best, but some of them are temporary.

Really nice buildings man, some reflections and a bit of IBL would really make them pop
![]() I would model some really basic interiors to spread around the buildings it adds an enormous amount of depth to things. especially if you want to do a moving shot. the parallax will make it seem much more real. What are you rendering in?

Thanks guys! I haven't forgot, and I have made progress since, but lately it's been difficult to find enough time to really make any noteworthy leaps in progress worth reporting.
RogerKnightly, I'm rendering with Max 9's scanline render (for now)

HS Modeling - Tutorial?
Nice design and render!
Will you show some of your modeling Techniques for creating these buildings using Silo?

Well Sadicus, I start from a cube and just work from there. I don't have any set in stone method for doing this. Sometimes if the building is really big, I work on one area like a wall with a window, then I make an array of those. Sometimes I just wing it and see where it takes me. None of these buildings were planned in advance.
Thanks Teyon, I won't, but I must say I've continued the work in Blender, but I still want to keep you updated on my progress.

How did you get such nice rounded corners on your building in silo?

Here is an update on that building. Now all it needs are better, and custom, textures.
