Dwayne the Dragon
So Im laying around healing from hernia surgery and thought might as well model a little bit with my laptop, I mean it will run Silo and since I own it, might as well use it...
...so I googled some images and came across a sketch from Zac A. Cantlon I thought was funny and thought I'd model it. 6 hrs modeled in Silo so far for the base mesh and will venture into Zbrush once I'm able to sit up better. ![]() ![]() |

Hi Polygod
Sad to hear you have had hernia, hope you'll recover quickly Really like the model, you might want to rotate the wings a big, so they dont stand out to the sides that much. looking forward to see an update (reminds me of, Elliott, Puff the magic Dragon) /cheers |

Thanks guys. If I can ever sit up long enough to zbrush him, I'll be good.
As for the straight wings, even though he doesn't have the best loops for animation, I still made them straight so that I could pose them later, in case I wanted to do a most simple animation. Besides, I still may retopo after zbrush and give him the proper loops and such. It's still all up in the air at this point. ![]() |

Great start, nice concept as well, dragons are usually fun subject to work on, especially cartoony dragons, not much to crit at this point, maybe thicken up the arms a bit, as well as the neck, the side view looking good IMO, great job on the upper body, the feet could use some love, otherwise basically looking forward to the zbrush pass, and yeah here's to a fast recovery, keep it up man.

Thanks for all the comments. Well my laptop was able to run zbrush a little bit so until I can sit at the desktop, I have to use it... and quite sluggishly.
I have ALOT to do, but wanted to post the progress so far so that it keeps me motivated to finish it. I can't wait to get to the fur part ![]() ![]() |

This is coming along great! I thought you were going to go in more of a toon direction but I like this too. Looks like it could fit in Dark Crystal.

Thanks for the support. I'm continuing to build up the shape in Zbrush from the base mesh I made in Silo. Still loads to do...

This is shaping up really nicely. I like the design and your modeling execution quite a bit. What ZBrush material is that in your latest image if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks and yeah np, it's a material you can download from Zbrush's website. It's called gw_canderle. It actually renders quite differently than this so I just take a screenshot of it instead. I think it looks better that way.

I'm getting to the point now where boredom sets in on a model and you start repeating your patterns. So to kill that habit, I'm going to move onto texture painting now and should I decide to add more detail or take some away, I'll do it later.

So started some poly painting and got this far. I've never been a great texture painter so I'm still working on that much. I think it's nearing completion because the subsurface will help alot in the renderer and then I can do smaller details of painting in Photoshop.
So I guess I will look at it for a while before I decide the proper time to take it out of Zbrush. ![]() |

interesting
I was just showed your model by someone else who happened across it. I have to say good work mate. it goes a different direction than my original, but is very well done. Thanks for listing that the inspiration came from my work.

Hey Zac no problem. I was going to email you with the final version once I was done. I can still do it should you like to have it. I might even animate him.
Thanks again and if you have anything else you'd like modeled that you've drawn up, let me see em ![]() |
