**NEW** COLLABORATION SESSION: CS001 `Boulder and Co`
**NEW** COLLABORATION SESSION: CS001 `Boulder and Co`
This is the first of the Collaboration sessions. The idea being that anyone can join in and contribute to the session in a number of ways including: 1. Take the concepts further by drawing more Characters and creatures in the same style. 2. Model any of the characters in the reference 3. Model the environment or any part of the environment. 4. Give advice to other people who have never worked on projects like this. 5. Be prepared to take critisism in the spirit it is intened. Even though this is a fun session there may be a need to improve the qualitry of a model or scene. I will adjudicate if needed. In the real world you would have a tyrano-sore-ass Art director or TD to do this for you ![]() 6. Team work works. State what you want to do on the project but be prepared to let someone else do it if needed. 7. Try new stuff! If you are comfortable doing characters then build a Tree or part of the enviro. ![]() Some comments: 1. It's a Silo Session but lots of other software can/may be used. Anything goes for me! 2. Anything you create must be shared with the team of contributors. Upload your models to your own server in a Zip/rar with a password. Only give the password to other contributors via PM or email. 3. If you use anything in your portfolio you must give full credit to the other members. 4. No time limit. If it doesn't take off we won't do anymore. If it does take off I'll be hiring here in the UK....JOKE! no CV's or reels thank you...It's all good clean fun and a bit of practice. So, to this sessions reference. This is `Boulder and Co`. It is a rejected concept that is begging to be created. The client (fictional of course in case you haven’t guessed!!!) wants to see a set of character models with textures in a range of different environments all based on the stylised concepts provided. We can push the boundaries by making new characters and coming up with new scenes or stages. Work out how to design a multi part environment with re-usable and interchangeable scenery (trees, rocks, equipment, new characters and creatures not shown). Explore indoor and outdoor scenes possible caves? ![]() Good luck!

this sounds cool, i am thinking those who want to take part put down their names and we start with a discussion on splitting up the parts of the project. if you haven't guessed i am in on this one.
this project reminds me of The Flintstones so i was thinking maybe for the scene and objects looking at them and using some of that for ideas and new concepts. personally i wouldn't mind having a whack at the T-Rex. Nathan |

This sounds like a great project idea, Glen! Although I'm tempted to start modeling, the next step should be to explore the ideas conceptually; some good old drawing of additional character and sets, and brainstorming scenarios for the characters. Once we have some more fleshed out ideas, then we can start dividing up the modeling ...will someone volunteer to be project manager?
I'll volunteer to start noodling with the character and set drawings... |

I'll put my name down to be involved ![]() Not my usual style so will be different. Maybe I'll do some Environment sketches first. K |

Hi there team,
Owner/investor here.... Some great ideas and some interesting thoughts already. I would nominate a Project manager and an Art Director as soon as possible. Then agree on a concept lead, character lead and an environment lead artist. The sooner someone steps forward and grabs the AD role the sooner you can make a start. There is an elemant of speed in place here as the client is looking for some sample shots within 2 weeks! BEWARE! The feedback can be HARSH! and some of you will not make it through this project in one piece! He who dares Wins! Please agree the key roles by posting in which one you wish to take on. If no-one challenges within 1 hour the role is yours. Then build your team and begin work under the guidance of the AD. Remember, there is no `I` in `team` and no `F` in `Manager`. If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got!. I will be chipping in with Dilbert sayings and comments like `can we have that character with `that` item but in Cornflower Blue! Is that do-able!! and by this evening please?` So. Who is Project manager and who is Art Director. I need to see some action guys!!! Regards, Ann Gree-Owna --------------------------------------------------- OWNER/INVESTOR : Anne Gree-Owna Project Manager/AD : KYRO Lead Concept : KAYLON Lead Character Model : MODEL WRIGHT Lead Creature Model : POSITION OPEN Lead Enviro Modeler : POSITION OPEN Texture/Lighting : PARCEL TD/Render/ : WAYNE --------------------------------------------------- MEMO FROM ANNE: 16.04.09 13.46 All lead positions have the Final say on their part of the project with the overall agreement needed from the AD. Just because you are lead doesn't mean you will do it all! Everyone can multitask (it's expected!)and anyone of you can be sacked with no prior notice! Get your teams rallied around you get get some product in front of Kyro! The clock is ticking gentlemens/ladies! --------------------------------------------------- MEMO FROM ANNE: 16.04.09 16.46 Several key roles still available you lazy shambles of a team! I am not happy tonight and my girdle is killing me! SORT THIS OUT NOWWWWWW! --------------------------------------------------- Reporting project status to senior management: ![]()

I took a few mins out this morning at work and threw together a quick re-work of the logo I quite like it for being a 10 min job...comments please
![]() I was thinking of making the exclamation mark at the end a Club... ![]() I will happily volunteer my concepting services and work deeper into the original designs and style. I'd like to continue to develope the current style as it's something different for me ![]() Of course I will probably be putting together some models anyway during this process ![]() I must ask our 'Owner' though...is this Animation or Game... ![]() I'd nominate Kyro or Teyron as art director if they are up for it ![]() Hopefully we'll get more of the many most excellent (insert Bill & Ted Air guitar here) modelers on this forum to take part ![]() Get volunteering..try something new ![]() K Last edited by kaylon; 04-16-2009 at 08:37 AM. |

Hi there team, Kaylon: I'm looking for 3D stills to show to the client. If possible a short animation/animatic showing some of the environments and a few character hero shots. Several turnaround of the characters and creatures would be nice. ZBrush is great for this and Wayne can help is anyone needs advice. No game work planned todate. Although, if the project is a GREEN LIGHT we may explore a game spin off. We do need some short scripts producing. If we could recruit a Screen writer it would be great to get a few episode drafed out and maybe story boarded. I have tried to call JJ Abrahms but he seems to be busy directing something and not answering so we may have to settle for Teyon!!! Regards, Ann Gree-Owna April 2009 http://www.anngreeowna.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LEGAL NOTICE: Please bear in mind that this is completely fictitious and if you participate you will not be recompensed in anyway. Anne Gree-Owner is not a real person and any resemblance to persons living or dead is damned unlucky for them and us! However, if I was real I'd look like this: ![]()

hey guys, this thread is busy busy busy lol
ok after some 'thinking' i'll take the offer as art director if no one objects ofc. i'll try to do my job as good as i can to complete this fun concept. I'd like to nominate Matt as Project Lead. after digging into the mans life (yes, i have my connections) i think he'd be prefect for the job ![]() Wayne, you're help will be welcome for sure. Would be cool to have you for rendering and/or UV layout. Nathan and Kaylon could do modeling. at a later time we can discus who will start where or with what. And Kaylon, realy nice work on the logo m8, made us have a good start for this project ![]() so if no one minds, think we can start like this, making some adjustments along the way in the next day or 2. hopefully more ppl will join us. think the main challenge of this project is to work as a team like glen said. and to make the things we do look like 1 whole piece. this should be a fun project, even tho some (bad)crits may follow. it's a learning process for the most of us, and this can only help us all to make ourselfs of more value in the 3D world. also thinking of using a messaging progy like skype so it's easy to keep in touch with each other. not that the forum doesn't ofc. but we can chat on the spot and talk about stuff a little more fluid. so if you want to add my skype, my user name is Kyroke. Happy modeling guys and gl Last edited by Kyro; 04-16-2009 at 09:26 AM. |

Hey!! You!!!! LURKER!!! Why are you lurking and thinking `God I'd love to join in but they'll laugh at my work...shame as I'd really like to try stuff like this!'.
Well mr Lurker, you are formally invited to join in. I am a bouncer/cooler round here and if anyone laughs at you I'll take him/her out with a logic bomb or twitter flood from Barbie fans. If you always lurk and want to join some fun just do it! I'll watch your back with these hardocre modeling nuts. If you want to take part just have a go at modeling one of the littl characters perhaps. Maybe today is the day you leave the reeds and join the other swans my friend! And don't worry about Anne picking on you or your work. I know loads of juicy gossip on her and I've seen what she keeps under her bed! Glen

Here is a quick go from last night. The meshes need to have real edge loops though
- so I will re-do them laterTexture in 3D Coat to try out the paint features- maybe take into a renderer later. |

This looks like a great project. Good opportunity for practice at keeping models simple.
I won't join in, because I have PLENTY of my own challenge ideas to work through, but I'm here to offer assistance or advice in any areas where I can be helpful. Maybe UV mapping? Anyway looks like you are all off to a great start, Happy modeling! |
