**NEW** WEEKLY MODELING SESSION: Week 005 Thunderbird 2

Ok, week Five and some hard surfaces again. Still lots of curves but a few more edges in the windows and engine parts. Thunderbirtds are GO!!!!!!!!

COMMENTS:

Google to your hearts content or reach into the loft and get down your old green spaceships for this one. There is a ton of reference material for Thunderbird 2 out there. I think we should follow this session up with some Thunderbird Character modeling.

Good luck and enjoy!

Nice topic..I loved the thunderbirds..still do

I've done a quickie as I'm pressed for time this week.

I did a real quick rough using Box modeling in Max so I could use FFD boxes to give me a basic shape, then I imported that into Silo and cleaned up the shape in mirror mode.

I just can't seem to get the windows and engine vesnt to star square, I've added lots of new edges but it's not working. Any suggestions ?

I have to admit, I had to Google the Thunderbirds; I missed the fact that there was a movie a few years ago, but I don't think we had this series in the US. No green ships to dust off in my loft, but I am digging the feel of this ship, and some of the pics I've seen online of the series and the toys. Nice work so far Kaylon (I'm going to really try to get in on this week's session after dropping the ball last week), and great blueprints from Kyro. Thanks!

Maybe we could stay on a 'Thunder' theme and have something from the Thundercats in an upcoming challenge!

Kaylon my answer to your question is

Image A is 1 of your windows in its lowest sub D image B is when you sub D it a few times. If you select the highlighted edge in image C on each 4 corners of the window and bevel them ever so slightly you will get image D.

note: you may need to do a small clean up but you will get your square.

Hope that helps, i have made a start on this model but not enough to bother posting up i have a Cube :P

Just started on this and am appreciating the underbelly blueprints more for details on the rockets and landing legs.
I'm really tempted to texture rather than model the windows. Model feels a bit like a flying tadpole.

Lo guys,
Looking good there, good to see the usual guys are here again participating in this weeks session
Altho i was gonna finish my android first before starting week 5, i took a break from him today and decided to give a go at the thunderbird 2. still some work to do but think it'll do for today.
i see alot f ppl making it in 1 piece, but i prefered to work with seperate pieces. hope that's ok. For the window i made a grid and tweaked the points till it had the right shape. then applied shell command on it to give it thickness. then did a boolean operation to cut out the window, cleaned up the edges and made a loop around the window frame. all that was left was to put in the shape of the window and the bars to get the seperate windows.
happy boxing!

Here we go folks...done for now.

I guess it's about 5 hours total work. I'm happy with most of it as it was an excellent learning tool. Not quite sure about the front end, I could have made it a bit more bulbus but as it was done totally freeform by eye and not using any projection images it works enough for now

Gonna go and maybe try and finish my Spartan now.

K

BTW- this seems like a great site. The real life model maker really has a great eye for form and detail
