ice: Sure. Use it for anything. I drew it for a Lightwave conference and it has been modeled before but by all means use it. I wasn't paid for it and I retain (c) so its a great one for anyone portfolio.

Although this is a Silo forum I'd be more than happy to see other modeling solutions used. It can only be a benefit especially if the work flow was described. I personally model with Lightwave, Silo, Maya, ZBrush, Mudbox and a plethoro of 2D packages. I am more about teaching new users to model than a Software fundanmentalist.

AND WOW........amazing work guys. I'm really impressed with whats been shared here.

This is a really cool session, everybody's posting great stuff! I like the way that individual style creeps into the models.

One question though, Kyro, how did you do the springs? I'm guessing path extrusion, but if that's the case, how did you get the helix to use as a path?

hey Brainmuffin,
thx for the comments, it's indeed cool to see all those different styles on the same model.
to answer your question: i used the arc tool to make the spiral curve. for the object to extrude i used a cap of a cylinder. then it's only a matter of positioning the cap in the right place so it intersects with the curve. select the cap, shift select the arc and path extrude, nothing more to it.
if you want the professional explenation, check out Glen Southern's fundamental tutorials here http://www.nevercenter.com/videos/tutorials/ it's video nr IX you want, it's all there

May I step into the breach?
Just make sure circle and helix touch each other a tiny little bit and the circle is set perpendicular to the starting edge.

Cheers

He's not dead yet

I'm almost finished the base mesh, got his head to do and then I'll be taking him into MudBox to finish him off..hand, head and damage details etc.

Nice work Kaylon. You've been selected as our weekly T-shirt winner for you work on this session. Excellent work also by Kyro.
