**NEW** WEEKLY MODELING SESSION: Week 004 Spartan Android
Ok, week four. This week we are facing our toughest challenge to date, a Spartan Android! This blueprint was created in 2007 for a Lighwave user group demonstration and was modelled live. It is time to see him come to life here in the Silo world. Lots of hard surface skills needed this week to get the crisp edges.
![]() And a link to a large version: http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/uploads2009/img058.jpg COMMENTS: A different skill set required now my Silo-modeling friends. Less organic curved surfaces and a lot of small intricate parts to contend with. A good blueprint to work from in the background and a great project to learn the art of managing multiple objects and multiple surface. Good luck and enjoy!

um, this one seems a bit on the challenging side for a weekly project. Is it fair to split up the challenge? One person assembles the torso, another the head, etc.
Probably less of a challenge and more of a team project...any takers? I'll volunteer to start on the head! BTW...I like the character, but he looks a lot like a hybrid of the old and new Battlestar Galactica Centurions... http://dialogicdesign.files.wordpres...-evolution.jpg Last edited by mseydel; 03-29-2009 at 02:05 AM. |

Not as much time available to work on this as I thought, but here goes. I started on the face plate as extruded faces mirrored across the x plane, deleting faces where there should be gaps. From there I started to build the 'mohawk' ridge on the top of the helmet from a box, using a cube as a placeholder for the head. That's when I noticed that the skull inside the head is a really odd shape; more like a gorilla than a human, which makes this more interesting.
The helmet is starting to come along, and I'm trying to keep the poly count down for now while still blocking... Last edited by mseydel; 11-07-2009 at 03:39 PM. |

haha ye i noticed the odd shape to the skull i didn't put it down as a creature like you have but it does have a strange shape. i am not planing putting the odd shape into the head yet i will probably you the displacement brush later to put that in.
you helm is looking good, looking forward to seeing more time being put into it |

Kyro, that is a great helmet- excellent as usual! I like how you solved the earpiece.
I may be a bit busy at work this week, but will post my updates tomorrow. Team project might not have been the best fit for this week... |

Excellent work Kyro! and everyone else...
I'm a new Silo user and I think I'll give this a try. I hope it's okay to slightly alter the design as I think I have a couple of changes I'd like to model, rather then sticking 100% to the concept. I'll post some WIP's soon ![]() K |

First WIP and first mesh modelled in Silo..yay!
I'm using the concept but I'm wanting a slimmer end result so I'm adapting the design a littl bit to give the Spartan a thinner waist. ![]() K |
