Silo 2.1 Beta 7-28-2008 Win & Mac
Hi folks,
Here's a new beta for you. We've mostly focused on bugs and workflow issues, but we did end up adding a few small convenience features. We've also been working on a few things for Siggraph time. ![]() *Edit* Mac version added below - Apple keeps introducing new and amazing bugs in their display drivers, so hopefully we've worked around this one - let us know how it shows on your system. *Edit* Minor features of note: - A new "Select By" submenu is now available in the Selection menu. You can select creased or marked edges, and select all faces with the same material(s) as the current selection. - There's also a "Select By" button in the materials editor, which will select all faces with the assigned material. - Option to de-triangulate faces on 3ds import. - The Scene Info window now reports number of tris in the scene and current selection to help with game development. It counts how many triangles the selection would be if triangulated. We fixed many small issues and crashing bugs. A few of note: - Fixed displacement painting crash on zoom. - Fixed display refresh when new texture map assigned. - Nudge and Rotate UVs have separate commands for positive and negative directions. - Scale UVs Proportionally scales according to size of first selected face. - Fixed snapping issues with Polygon Tool. - Some playing around with the default UI colors and button locations. This one will install the beta to a new directory, so you can keep or uninstall previous betas as you wish. Note, however, that previous betas will automatically expire after a set amount of time. Happy modeling! Download (Win) Download (Mac)

Nice update. Can't wait to see what secrets you have up your sleave.
Could you please please stop the UV view appearing when we mark UV seams and let us see the marked seams without the UV view (like it used to be). The current workflow just isn't... flowing for me.

Oh yeah, one odd thing I noticed is that, when I come out of the surface tool, I am always in scale mode, so tweaking requires that I go into move mode. I think move is the most commonly used mode so that is what it should go to.

Sorry, Capt'n, She nae working 'tall down here....
Jam, Feed, I so often like to compliment and enjoy what you do. But this is 2.5 releases or so where the main display shows nothing, ever!!!
Create an object, and nothing shows, ever. Meanwhile, you clearly still know how to display objects on this Intel Centrino graphics chip because the created cylinder, cone, torus, etc. display just fine in the UV views whenever they are activated. Also, you did a wonderful job on fixing I think every problem with the Centrino chip just prior to embarking on 2.1.n. Could you back out whatever you changed on the main display? Is there some way we can help you further? I put a picture in the last time, and will do it again. Nada in the left side which is main display, which actually holds 6-8 objects at the present. Fine view of the cone by selecting it, as you can get of any of the other objects really there. Notice also that nice awful gradient Gazotz. You can manipulate its size with the near Clipping Plane. It has nothing to do with any real objects and is always there. Ok, that is all .Narration frustrated in San Diego |

Damn, you still have the zoom bug in there..
Seriously this is a pretty big bug, sure its ok if your object is tiny, but if you're working with large assets it renders silo unusable as the bug kicks in straight away. I will test on my work PC, but it's still there at home. See it in action In the vid I just keep zooming out (with a tablet, in case that helps) Does no one else get this!? I have it one TWO PC's with different setups so far, I will test it out on more. |

Thanks NC!
I notice really fast performance on this release with maximum poly count. It seems very optimised and smooth. Select by Material handy. Only crit there's a lot of different nudge and selection options with the UV stuff. Maybe it could still be simplified? This time I'm testing it all out soon promise ![]() Anyone else trying to guess the Silo surprise? Don't see where the zooming bug is to be honest. Wouldn't need to zoom that far anyhow? Honestly I've zoomed wayyyy out and innnn and NO problems here ![]()

Could you see if you get it then? Normally i wouldn't zoom out that far obviously, but for one: - this bug shouldn't happen at all anyway and secondly: - If you work with BIG game assets (like for Unreal editor 3 or Cryengine2) due to the scale of the object it happens at normal zoom levels. But mainly an app's viewport shouldn't freak out when you zoom out (even if it is a lot) EDIT: Ok tested on my work PC This build seems a LOT smoother than previous versions ![]() And I'm no longer getting geometry display errors on large obj's (used to get sort of clipping near the edges) Also seem's you've made it so you have to zoom further out to get the "freaky shaking" BG bug, Thats cool cause i can actually import some of my big meshes and work with them. The bug is still there, and i do think it should be fixed (or have the distance until it kicks in increased even more) but for now at least its workable ![]() Last edited by X_X; 07-29-2008 at 09:05 AM. |

Thanks for your help guys. We're getting that one, too, so we should be able to take care of it. You can change the behavior by playing with the near and far clipping plane values in the Display Settings.
Narration, does changing those same near and far clipping plane values affect your display issue in any way? Try some drastic changes and see if you can notice any difference.

Silo 2_1 Beta 7-28-2008 Silo 2_1 Beta 6-26-2008 & Silo 2.0.6 (Interestingly without the Gradient you can't see it go mental) X_X one workaround until it gets fixed is to set your import scale factor to bring in an obj at a smaller scale then set it to scale up by the same factor on export. I had to do this for exporting to mudbox a while back and worked a treat. |

Oh Silo setup didn't do the file associations for me this time.
I remember last time I turned it down and this time it won't do it. Must try reboot sometime. A little setup glitch? PS-- My machine doesn't know what sib files are anymore. Weird? @X_X I think the bug just got acknowledged, just hasn't bothered me yet ![]()

This bug hasn't bothered me also but I'd love to see it squashed. Problems like this have a tendency to creep up on you when you're least expecting it; usually during the middle of some important work.

- anytime you mark seem uv window pops up which is very annoying - you can not see seams until opening uv window (even if you don't need it) which takes about 33% of your screen estate. Please give us simple key-toggle - "show/hide uvs seams". Last edited by Fubar; 07-29-2008 at 11:59 AM. |
